VirtualBox' main objective is high performance. This can only be
achieved using a kernel
driver. When not having the kernel driver, VirtualBox' performance will
not be much better
than QEMU. There is already an undocumented method to make it work
without the kernel
driver but as we currently do not provide an easy way to export / import
VMs, it's not that
useful yet.
We are definitely planning to add support for using VirtualBox and its
VMs as Portable Software.
Some help from the community would be appreciated, though.
