I don't think thats the same thing. I have one (two actually) of those
"recovery CD" as well. It may depend on the manufacturer of your
system, but I know mine is set so that it will only install on systems
built by the same manufacturer. In other words,  I can only use those
Dell CDs on systems built by Dell. They have built some mechanism into
their hardware to identify it as being built by Dell and when you
start the install, the first thing it does is check for that. As a VM
creates a virtual hardware system for the guest, the guest doesn't get
access to that mechanism and can't verify the system was in fact
manufactured by the designated manufacturer. Therefore it refuses to
install at all.

Unfortunately, I don't expect this to ever work as different
manufacturers may use different and varying means of identification
which may change from time to time. Therefore is would be imposable
for Vbox (or VMware or others) to build in reliable support to pass
the signal along to the guests.

That said, there may or may not be some way to hack your install CD to
work on any system. That would likely be specific to your system and
not related specifically to Vbox. Try searching the net for solutions.
