Hi,
I tried to setup 'Internal Networking' using 1.3.3 test build (see FAQ)
however I couldn't select Internal Networking using the GUI nor via
"VBoxManage modifyvm" I figured it is a bug which needs addressing so in
the mean time, here's how I got it to work for my needs - which may not
match your requirements.
I hope this mini-HOWTO helps. Given the folks from Inno Tek have done so
much to give us this wonderful product, it's the least I can do.
Requirements
============
o Guest O/S #1 - W2K - needs access to the Internet and Guest O/S #2. It
does not need network access from the Host O/S.
o Guest O/S #2 - SUSE 10.2 - needs access to the Internet, network access
from the Host O/S and Guest O/S #1
Settings
========
W2K
---
I used the default Network settings:
- Attached to: NAT
- Cable Connected
This gives me Internet access.
The NIC is set for DHCP.
SUSE 10.2
---------
I setup Host Interface. I created a TAP by 'Settings > Network' and typing
a value in Interface Name (my-server) and clicking the Network icon to
create it.
In order to use the selected Interface, I had to click on the "Generate"
button to get a new MAC created, select 'my-server' and click OK.
Once I booted SUSE 10.2, I assigned a static IP to its NIC:
o IP Address: 192.168.0.10/255.255.255.0
o Gateway: 192.168.0.1
o DNS: 192.168.0.1
This gave me access to my Host machine but not the Internet, yet.
Host O/S
--------
I setup ICS between my NIC and the TAP I created above (my-server). This
gives SUSE 10.2 Internet access and allows W2K to communicate to SUSE 10.2.
I can ssh or VNC from my W2K to SUSE 10.2.
I can also VNC to SUSE 10.2 from my Host O/S.
I cannot VNC to the W2K machine but that's okay, I don't need that
functionality.
