Unix can do things like this for quite sometime.
In fact, you can accomplish a "Linux on Windows" quite easily using Xming
(http://freedesktop.org/wiki/Xming) . Unixes use the concept of client and
server to draw their windows. Put the server in another desktop, instruct the
client to use that server and bingo.

I'm not quite sure, but maybe there is already something that can make a Windows
machine be a client, for a X server in another desktop. Thats what Parallels is
doing with Coherence.
