I have setup a Virtual Box installation using a Windows XP host & Fedora
Linux guest, and successfully shared a folder from the Windows side, and
mounted it in the file system of the Linux side. I can read & write the
files from within the Linux guest, so the shared folder mechanism is
basically working.

The problem I am having is that I cannot set the permissions of files in
the shared folder to make them executable (under Linux). A second issue
which I believe is related is that I can create but cannot rename or
delete folders in the shared area from within Linux. All this is being
done with root ownership of files & folders.

Am I trying to do something that shared folders does not support or have
I got a configuration problem? As I am a Linux newbie, the latter is
entirely possible.

Any help gratefully received

TIA
