This should be simple, simply configure your VirtualBox installation to
claim the Palm USB device. Just make sure you have no drivers on the
host OS claiming the device as well. In the case of Linux, watch for
the USB serial drivers, unload them with 'modprobe -r <modulename>' as
root, and get a list of drivers using 'lsmod' (usually only works as
root as well).
