Hi,
I'm using virtualbox 1.5.2 on an opensuse 10.3 64bit PC.
The output of: "setserial /dev/ttyS1" is:
"/dev/ttyS1, UART: 16550A, Port: 0x02f8, IRQ: 3"
In a properly set up guest XP I activate
Port 0, COM2, IRQ 3, I/O 0x2F8
mode "Host-Schnittstelle" and enter path: "/dev/ttyS1".
When I try to start start this XP I get the error message:

VBox status code: -38 (VERR_ACCESS_DENIED).
