My setup is the following:
Host: Debian testing with eth0 (146.232.129.30)
Virtualbox-ose 1.5.2
I want a guest (pfsense) to use 146.232.128.32 (an available IP on
this segment of the network) as well as an internal network interface
to try the pfsense firewall.
Following the Debian/Ubuntu section of the documentation (in 6.5.1.1
there is a
6.5.1.1 Debian and Ubuntu hosts
and then there is a
"To set up a host interface using Debian and Ubuntu?s native methods,
do the following instead of step 4 above:"
I only saw the last sentence after I have followed the steps from 1-4
and ended with no network on my host - actually there was an eth0 and
a br0 and the br0. I then thought the native Debian method might work
better, but I still had no network. So I deinstalled bridge-utils and
uml-net, removed the references to br0 in my network configuration,
did a
'sudo VBoxDeleteIF vbox0', restarted the network, but I could not get
rid of the br0.
In the end I had to reboot to get rid of the br0 and get my host
network back.
But I still want to test pfsense!
I have tried this:
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp
auto br0
iface br0 inet static
address 146.232.128.32
network 146.232.128.0
netmask 255.255.254.0
broadcast 146.232.255.255
gateway 146.232.128.16
bridge_ports all
and then this:
auto br0
iface br0 inet dhcp
bridge_ports eth0
both ending with no available network on the host.
Is there clear, working documentation that can help me to setup
pfsense using 146.232.128.32 without interfering with my host's
network?
Regards
Johann
