I dont understand what you mean by crashed. Does it crash and immediately reboot? Or do you mean some application crashed?
If windows OS is crashing, how could you possibly be retrying to do the guest additional installs? So, is your windows on a VDI disk? Why dont you first re-install windows, and once windows reboots, try to re-install the additions. I had to go through a a few re-tries myself.
