The interesting questions are:
- How big are the .vdi files on your host?
- Which VBox version are you using?
- Perhaps could you post the output of 'dumpe2fs -h' of the partition
  where the .vdi files are stored on the host?
- Please could you make the VBox.log files available somewhere?

I would prefer if you could open a bug report at www.virtualbox.org and
add all relevant information there. Make sure that you attach the VBox.log
file (don _not_ copy'n'paste).
