Hi, I'm using VirtualBox 1.5.6 on a Windows XP pro SP2 host. I have two guests, Ubuntu 8.04 and Vista Business SP1.
I have an external modem connected to the COM1 serial port on the host. The modem works correctly from the host. I have configured both VM's with serial port 0 enabled, port number set to COM1, port mode set to host device, and port path set to COM1. The virtual serial port is recognized and used by the Ubuntu guest. I can connect to the modem and issue commands and receive the responses from a Linux terminal program on the Ubuntu guest. My problem is that the virtual serial port does not appear to be recognized by the Vista guest. I have no serial ports listed in the Vista device manager. I believe the real serial port is being used by Virtualbox, since the real COM1 port on the host is busy and can't be opened by other host programs while the Vista guest is running. Has anyone else seen this problem? Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for correcting this so i can use the virtual serial ports in the Vista guest?
