Running VirtualBox 1.6.0 AMD64 free closed source on a Athlon 64 X2 3800+,
4GB RAM, Slamd64 Linux host, Windows XP SP2 guest.

I have an XP virtual machine that I had been using on my previous
installation (Slackware 12.0, same specs, VirtualBox 1.5.6-1 x86) without
flaw or incident. However, I decided to try a 64-bit distribution while
keeping my home directory. I also grabbed the most recent AMD64
VirtualBox. When I first opened VirtualBox, it detected my old image and
informed me that it was updating it to the current version. I consented
and, being young and foolish, did not create a backup.

When I start the virtual machine, the window opens and the title goes from
[Starting] to [Running]. However, nothing further happens. There is no
hard drive activity and the screen remains blank without even the
'VirtualBox' splash screen appearing (although my previous version was
pre-Sun so for all I know that has since been taken out). The window
itself responds to input: menus work and it grabs/releases focus properly.
Just nothing boots.

Checked out my settings and all of them look correct, but frankly I'm not
enough of an expert to know for sure. Any suggestions?
