I have been working on a
tutorial<http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=769883>detailing how
to run an existing Windows partition with VirtualBox. The
tutorial, however, has hit a snag. An OEM-Installed version of Windows XP
does not automatically activate, because it detects a different BIOS than
the one provided by the manufacturer. This problem could be solved if
Virtual had the option to customize the virtual BIOS information. Activation
problems can be solved for people with Retail Windows environments.

I am not the only person asking for this feature - in fact some are
unsuccessfully attempting<http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?t=3224>
ways<http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?t=4948&highlight=modify+bios>to
emulate it, others are
looking<http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?t=6328&highlight=modify+bios>
for
it<http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?p=2223&sid=290109a4590f6c4ace08ebb48ed2a9a3>,
and the rest are having problems with without
it.<http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?t=5759&highlight=modify+bios>VMware
seems to already
have <http://www.vmware.com/support/esx15/doc/esx15_runvm5.html>
this<http://communities.vmware.com/thread/28149>
feature <http://www.wimsbios.com/phpBB2/topic6127.html>. I ask that
developers please add this feature to VirtualBox. After this, I can
offically "publish" the tutorial which will help gain Linux converts as well
as VirtualBox users. Thank you.
