My bad. I shouldn't respond to questions until I've had at least one
cup of coffee to start the day! :-)  Of course I did not "compile"
anything. I re d/l the Ubuntu Hardy 8.04 PUEL files [vBox v2.0.2]
from www.virtualbox.org.  Which I then installed using the Gdebi
package installer. After which I rebooted and everything was fine.
