I may be wrong, but I believe this question has been asked before, and if I'm not mistaken, it's because the USB support is provided by Intel under closed source licenses.
I may be totally wrong, and if I am, my apologies. I believe VMware Player and perhaps Server has USB passthrough, if this is a deal killer for you...
