It's a quirk of the way the packages are named in the VirtualBox apt repository.
You are currently running 2.2.4 which is a package named "virtualbox-2.2". Had a 2.2.5 been released, you would have seen the update. Virtualbox 3.0.0 is actually a package named "virtualbox-3.0". You need to explicitly install it, though you should get subsequent updates until 3.1 comes out.
