John,
I am hoping that you will post progress with your Plan 9 vm. I have
read a couple of (possibly) successful post in the forums, but I am not
convinced that anyone has a successful/functional Plan 9 vm.
Looking forward to your follow up posts.

I tried to install Plan 9 in a virtual machine but it was no go. Now
I'd like to delete the broken image, but I have a broken snapshot as
well and I cannot delete that either.
Can I just delete the p9.vdi file, or will that cause even more trouble.
Wish I could run Plan 9 :(
ubuntu 8.10
v3.0.0 r49315
Well, no help forthcoming I just went ahead :
rm -r .VirtualBox/HardDisks/p9.vdi .VirtualBox/Machines/p9/
I got a bit of a fright when I opened up the Sun VitualBox app and got
a warning about missing disks... but I was then able simply to delete
the stillborn Plan 9 machine without trouble.
So, no problems. But no Plan 9 either :(
No problems, but... Sun VirtualBox still thought the components of the
stillborn Plan 9 machine were "there", although I'd deleted them. I
looked in the other files in the .VirtualBox directory, found references
to the <HardDisk>'s and <Image> in VirtualBox.xml, deleted them, and NOW
things seem to be OK.
