As far as the question about should you care, I'm not sure I know as
I've not experienced this before.  If my understanding is correct it
could be a performance hit as the kernel module timings and kernel
timings are different.

As far as what to do about it.  The vbox startup script that loads the
vboxdrv also has a option that will recompile the kernel module.

on redhat (& clones) its /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup

substitute appropriately for debian and friends.
