What you report is odd. That amount of RAM is enough to run a
graphical environment.  By the way, when you create a new virtual
machine, the amount of memory required is suggested automatically by
VirtualBox GUI.

Try checking out VirtualBox's logs and CentOS's messages at
installation time (they are usually sent to a text terminal other than
the one you use to install it, for instance Ctrl+F2 or Ctrl+F4)
