Thanks. I succeeded in the teleportation from iMac/Core i7 to iMac/Core 2 Duo. http://video.nifty.com/cs/catalog/video_metadata/catalog_091202264201_1.htm

I will try AMD CPU later.

Forgot to mention that teleportation from a new CPU to a much older model can of course fail, since VirtualBox can't do miracles and give the old CPU features of the new CPU.

For this it'd be necessary to artificially reduce the CPU features of the new CPU to the level of the old one, before starting the VM. The documentation on this is pretty sparse, I know.

Hi,
Is teleportation possible from AMD CPU to Intel CPU?
in the press release
VirtualBox 3.1 introduces the virtualization industry's first "Teleportation"
capability, allowing running virtual machines to be moved, uninterrupted between
disparate hosts - including those on different operating systems, different classes of
computer (e.g. server to client) and even different CPUs (e.g. Intel to AMD).
http://www.sun.com/aboutsun/pr/2009-11/sunflash.20091130.1.xml
in the PDF manual
Teleporting between Intel and AMD CPUs will probably fail with an error message.
http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/3.1.0/UserManual.pdf
The user manual is a bit overly cautious - teleportation should work across
different CPU manufacturers for recent CPUs, as stated in the press release.

We could obviously test this only with a very limited number of combinations.
The easy way is to test this with your hardware combination. If you run into
problems you will notice it pretty quickly.
