The guest additions are not required for guest audio. > > So I can't tell if it can detect the audio device or mixer. As your guest is Ubuntu I assume you are using the default GNOME desktop. Have a look at the menu bar at the top. Somewhere there should be a mixer applet. > > Moreoever, when I do this in my ubuntu terminal, it can see playback > > device when I do 'aplay -l' > > > > $ aplay -l > > **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices **** > > card 0: I82801AAICH [Intel 82801AA-ICH], device 0: Intel ICH [Intel > > 82801AA-ICH] Subdevices: 1/1 > > Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 You could install the alsaplayer (apt-get install alsaplayer-gtk, make sure to install alsaplayer-alsa as well). Then try to play some audio file using the alsaplayer. Use the mixer applet or alsamixer (from terminal) to set the volume of the mixer. Make sure that the volume of your host mixer is set to a sane value as well. Kind regards, Frank -- Dr.-Ing.
