I have enabled roaming users and configured to allow
pop-before-smtp in vpopmail.
But i have a doubt if my system is allowing open-relay ?

Is this is a possiblity if my config files are not proper ?

files are like this
/etc/tcp.smtp
/etc/tcp.smtp.cdb

But the open.smtp.lock file is in /home/vpopmail/etc/open-smtp.lock
and it is old dated. So I don' think it is being used.

There is another file open-smtp in /home/vpopmail/etc
and the date and time of this file is in sync with /etc/tcp.smtp.cdb
whenever a relay happens. I could see the IP addresses being stored
and updated in this file /home/vpopmail/etc/open-smtp

My question is -
The IP addresses are stored here only if a user authenticates
via POP or even if he simply tries to use the SMTP server ?

As per the vpopmail doc
"1) vpopmail asks for an exclusive lock on the /etc/open-smtp.lock file
2) it will wait for the lock, once it gets it, it will continue"

What happens if this action fails ?
It appears this is not happening in my case. open-smtp.lock date never
changes.

Please help
