AFAIK, qmail tries to do an ident query for each SMTP connection. Now
if the machine you're trying to connect from is firewalled, qmail
doesn't get an RST response (i.e. connection refused) but no response
and it has to wait until the connection times out. Probably the best
solution would be to turn off the whole ident stuff (as it won't add
any security as ident can report whatever you like, IMHO), but don't
ask me how to do this ;-). Another possibility, which wouldn't apply
to everyone, though, is to reconfigure your firewall to return an RST
packet for each port it blocks...
