Hello Everyone -
I am a new bee to this mailing list and hope to get some
solution to my problem as described below:
I have installed qmail-1.03 on Red Hat Linux 6.0 alongwith
ucspi-tcp-0.88, daemontools-0.70 and
imap_4.5-maildir patch by david harris for IMAP support for
Maildir email formats.
I have this primary email domain name, say
"email_domain_name.com". Now what I want to do is I want to assign/create email
ids to different users, say [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] and
so on. But at the same time, I don't want to create different system users. I
just want all of the email accounts to use a single system account. I don't even
intend to host any virtual domains on this server. I want that the email users
should be able to create dynmamic emails ids and be able to login to the "qmail"
server using IMAP protocol. For this I intend to use MySQL database
authentication. For accomplising this, I suppose, installing vpopmail with MySQL
support is the obvious solution. So, I have also installed
the vpopmail software along with MySQL_3.22.14. With this set up, I am able to
send emails, but some how when an email mail client like Outlook Express or
Netscape Communicator tries to fetch email from the server, it is unable to
login and authenticate the user name and password. It throws an error: "Login
Failed". Anyone has any idea what could have gone wrong. Any sugestions/help is
appreciated. Thanks.
Kind regards.
