i have set up a new email server using latest stable releases of qmail+vpopmail+mysql. i have compiled vpopmail to use the same table layout as on the old email server and now i am going to tar and ftp all the user directories and move them over. i have also put the new email server into dns (MX record) so while the ftp transfer is happening i will shut down the old email server so any deliveries will be postponed until the new server will accept mail. the one thing i am not sure about is the password values in the mysql database. can i simply copy the database over...set the users and permissions for the tables and vpopmail will be able to authenticate? what kind of salt value is used when mysql encrypts the passwords before storing them? am i just a complete idiot and blind to something significant that i haven't done that needs to be in order for this to work? any suggestions or comments would be much appreciated. thanx.
