Iam trying to upgrade from 4.10.35 to 5.0.

file locking = OFF --enable-file-locking=n
file sync = ON --enable-file-sync=y default
auth logging = ON --enable-auth-logging=y
mysql logging = OFF --enable-mysql-logging=n default
mysql clear passwd = OFF --enable-clear-passwd=n default

pop syslog = log everything, including passwords in errors

with the same options 4.10.35 authenticates /etc/passwd users.
here is a pop3 session with 5.0.
