It quite possibly could. I had a server which kept having issues with qmail-scanner due to perl being such a resource hungry beast. I switched that server to Simscan and it hasnt missed a beat since. I used to see processes getting hung or zombied quite a bit when I was using qmail-scanner. cheers Shane
