I'd personally edit the morercpthosts file. I think rcpthosts handles 50 domains (I'm probably wrong, but that's what my memory tells me) then after than the morercpthosts file is created and added to.
I've never had an issue manually editing either rcpthosts or morercpthosts. Hope that helps!
