In the trunk, now 5.5.0, you will find a patch to address the recently reported 
issue
about --enable-vpopuser and --enable-vpopgroup.

These were intended to be renamed to --with-vpopuser, and --with-vpopgroup, and 
that
somehow got bungled during the re-autoconf process.  I've fixed this, as well as
updating the user and group numerical id discovery code within the configure 
script.

The groupid was being taken from the vpopmail user regardless of the 
--with-vpopgroup
setting.
