We are getting closer now, it appears that some paths are broken...

need one for a server

Could you check if you have this line in the libvirtd configuration:

# egrep ^ca_file /etc/libvirt/libvirtd.conf
ca_file="/etc/pki/vdsm/certs/cacert.pem" # by vdsm

I was just checking that, and the line is there. Here is the tail of the /etc/libvirtd/libvirtd.conf

# NB This default all-zeros UUID will not work. Replace
# it with the output of the 'uuidgen' command and then
# uncomment this entry
#host_uuid = "00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000"
listen_addr="0" # by vdsm
unix_sock_group="kvm" # by vdsm
unix_sock_rw_perms="0770" # by vdsm
auth_unix_rw="sasl" # by vdsm
save_image_format="lzop" # by vdsm
log_outputs="1:file:/var/log/libvirtd.log" # by vdsm
log_filters="1:libvirt 3:event 3:json 1:util 1:qemu" # by vdsm
ca_file="/etc/pki/vdsm/certs/cacert.pem" # by vdsm
cert_file="/etc/pki/vdsm/certs/vdsmcert.pem" # by vdsm
key_file="/etc/pki/vdsm/keys/vdsmkey.pem" # by vdsm

I also tried to "yum install -y @virtualization". Here are the packages I currently have installed:

[root@fedora16 log]# yum list libvirt vdsm vdsm-cli
Loaded plugins: langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit
Installed Packages
libvirt.x86_64        0.9.6-4.fc16                      @updates
vdsm.x86_64 4.9.4-0.91.git90795dd.fc16 @/vdsm-4.9.4-0.91.git90795dd.fc16.x86_64 vdsm-cli.noarch 4.9.4-0.91.git90795dd.fc16 @/vdsm-cli-4.9.4-0.91.git90795dd.fc16.noarch

And here are some more logs when I restarted the libvirtd:
[root@fedora16 log]# tail libvirtd.log  messages

Also, if somebody wants, I can send the step-by-step instructions for creating a VM image for reproducing the current situation.
