Looking back on this thread, I was trying to find where I discussed
outputing *anything*, let alone a .java file.
You've got JSP on the brain :)
What I was thinking was there is no reason to have more than the one
form of the template, the VTL file for the user to worry about and
deploy.
If the compiled form remains internal to the runtime engine and cached,
just like the current AST is, then you get the performance increase w/o
the extra steps for development and deployment, the compiler could be
phased in w/o disrupting user installations, and could be switched on
and off at will.
