Assignment operator in #if condition results in false

This was a subject of frequent debate in the past, but no longer.  I guess 
people are used to it.  There is never any assignment done outside of 
#set(), so we don't want to do assignment in #if().  I am tempted to agree 
that 

  #if( $x = $y)

should be the same as

  #if($x == $y)

since we don't have any assignement semantics outside of #set(), and 
will eliminate some (well, your) pain.

However, that's downright yecchy to have two equality operators....
