the VelocityServlet is lacking in some bug fixes and improvements. to avoid tying the VelocityViewServlet (and thus the velocity-tools project) needlessly to the release cycle of core Velocity, the VelocityViewServlet was emancipated from the VelocityServlet. at this point, my understanding is that the VelocityServlet is to be kept around primarily as an example. if you are doing web development with velocity, you are far better off basing it on the velocity-tools project. i know nothing about the WebWorkVelocityViewServlet. i presume that is something WebWork created and supports.
