Its fine to remove the copyright, but an author attribution would be nice.

do we have permission to remove your copyright attribution from the code?
the
practice around here is to give the ASF the copyright when donating code and
putting things under its license.  authorial credit is typically given via
@author tags in the class javadoc.  see any of the current classes for an
example.

i'm pretty busy with paid-job stuff right now, but i'll go through your code
and give it a spin as soon as i can.  chances are good that i'll have a few
