Sifting through the backlog, I noticed this one from Shawn went without
a reply. 

The culture seems to be mostly mailing list-based... over the years, it
seems that we all have varied schedules, so we're not often both online
and "available to chat".

The lists seem to work well and are archived. :-)

I have been over on the codehaus.org IRC server (via web UI)...and that
is often handy since those folks tend to hang out online and can be
truly helpful if you need quick help. 

But hey -- if you've got the itch to set something up, go for it. :-)
