I branched the CVS early this morning after a bit of thought. I wanted to do a VEL_1_0_BRANCH for cleanliness, but it's too late to do that. So I branched at the 1_0_1_RC1 point so that can be safely released (and fixed if we have to), and we will continue with head. I didn't do current state - I wanted to be honest. The only changes since 1.0.1-rc1 are to the whiteboard.
