*Our Media & Entertainment client is seeking a Linux / Unix Admin to
support their Digital Set-Top Box environment for a contract opportunity.
You'll work with both software development teams and QA test teams on
staging, installing and troubleshooting applications and application
delivery systems. Responsibilities: . Support, maintain, provision Set Top
Boxes and Q/A troubleshoot related issues . Handle all installations and
upgrades as necessary . Ensure that STBs are maintained in a manner that
supports delivery of services to multiple platforms, resilience, and
performance . Ensuring continuity and quality by "owning” the resolution of
issues. Tracking progress and escalating as appropriate unless resolution
reached . Identifying faults and issues and recommending appropriate paths
to resolution, and fixing as appropriate . Maintain documentation of all
STB related application, equipment, resolution of issues, etc. . Establish
and maintain effective working relationships with all stakeholders. This
will include technical, operational and editorial staff as well as 3rd
parties . Undertake advanced systems administration tasks as required to
support problem resolution . Support QA teams in configuration of STBs for
testing . Ensuring appropriate contingency procedures are in place STB
support . Contributing to process development and best practice. Looking at
new ways to improve resilience, performance levels and supportability .
Ensure that STBs and related infrastructure are documented and kept current
Required Skills: . 5+ years hands-on Unix / Linux Admin experience required
. Extensive experience with Installations, Upgrades, VMWare / vSphere is
required . Experience supporting, maintaining and provisioning Set Top
Boxes for the Cable Industry is a HUGE PLUS . Ability to identify issues or
exposures and propose solutions . Must have strong UNIX / Solaris
engineering experience . Knowledge of Linux and general IT support required
. Knowledge of TCP/IP and related protocols . Solid experience with QAM
modulators, DNCS, DAC, Video MUX is preferred . RF/Video Engineering
experience a plus . Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or
equivalent**”*
