FNMA is currently migrating the legacy HPC platform from Reston, VA to Urbana, MD. The legacy HPC platform (Lenovo) is 5-8 years old, unstable, and requires significant resources and time to Lift/Shift the workloads. The current strategy is to develop and DESIGN a zero-footprint data center by 2020, i.e. All things live in the cloud. Recognizing that the HPC applications would require significant rework and time to be AWS cloud ready, WWT/Cisco & FNMA Engineering continued to pursue the opportunity to provide a current and stable infrastructure and a AWS cloud native environment that would be “their path to AWS, with a 36-month runway”.
