We are hospital based and our PCA is set up by the
nurse caring for the patient and it is then double checked by another nurse
before starting the PCA. Also the medication bag is checked by two
nurses. I know that in another area hospital the
pharmacist programs the pump and then changes any needed changes. This is
not feasible for our institution as we do not have a 24 hr pharmacy at this
time.
