Also dye studies to check for thrombosis or fibrin sheath. I had a patient with similar complaints that had a fibrin sheath that was redirecting his TPN to his subclavian and jugular. Let us know her outcome, please.

HELP!!  I have a patient with a PICC that has been receiving TPN for
about 6 weeks but is experiencing some weird things.



Complaint # 1--  States she hears and feels a definite popping sound
in
her chest when she flushes the line with NS.

Complaint#2--  States she feels like her throat gets swollen (like she
has a cold) for about 2 hours after flushing the PICC.



Any immediate help would be greatly appreciated.
