Lynn gave you excellent information, as she usually does. One other thing you may want to do in the mean time though, is to look up studies of your own to prove otherwise. Doctors want info they can read and see for themselves. They do not always care about standards and suggestions, especially if they are made by nurses. It has been that way for a long time. We must work to change that. Present this physician with better, and more dependable studies on this subject (and there are plenty) done by reputable nurses and doctors in this field (infection control/disease). The more info you find, the more he/she will respect you for it. They will understand that you took the time to be thorough, and therefore are serious about your work and the results your work produces. Take it from one who knows. I deal with this on a daily basis, and after 2 years of battle, I now look forward to a call from a physician asking my help and advice instead of giving me a direct order for a line of his/her choice.
