Hi Everyone,
I need info from the group.I work three 12 hour shifts for a 450 bed
hospital. We have 10 nurses (including IV Team Co-ordinator) on our IV Team ,
only 8 place PICC's. We have a main phone and beeper that staff use to call our
PICC and IV orders. PICC orders are also sent to our office printer, but we are
not always there so they have to call us as well. The problem is that the nurse
carrying the main beeper and phone gets tied down answering the beeper and
phone and doesn't get a lot done but answer calls. We have no secretary (will
not give us one). There has to be a better way to do this. What does everybody
else do to receive orders? We have two nurses during the day, one does IV's and
rounds, carries the main beeper and phone, the other does PICC's of which the
first nurse calls the PICC orders to.We only have one nurse 7p-7a and she does
everything. We are suppose to do difficult stick IV's but you know how that
goes. We average 160-170 PICC's, 500-600 IV's, 800 site checks,190-200 drsg
changes, 10-30 midlines per month, as you can see we are very busy. We have an
IV Team Co-ordinator but she's usually busy with paper work, meetings, etc. She
can only help with staffing when needed (nurse out sick, vacation, etc.). Does
anybody have any suggestions? I would like to present positive changes to our
IV team Co-ordinator. We do not have an Assistant Manager and our Manager could
never help. Thanks Everyone!
