See if the catheters you use have the flow rate on the packaging...We use the BD Insyte Autoguard, and each size catheter has the flow rate in the colored block where the size is listed. A 24 will handle 1200/hr, 22 will take 2100/hr, 20g will take about 4000/hr, and the 18 will provide 6300cc/hr...I don't know of many patients who need more than 4000/hr, even for resuscitation...I have run up to 5000/hr through 20 g without problems...
