Subject: RE: CVP Monitoring with PICCs

We used the following to support a policy/practice change.  We have noted that, on patients where we are able to do a comparison, that the PICC CVP seems to run 1-3 mm Hg lower than the PA CVP.

Verbal communication Marie Arnone, MS Swedish Medical in Seattle WA.  Poster presentation Utilization of PICC for monitoring CVP.   Documented in CHEST 2004

Black, I, et al ((2000)  Central Venous pressure measurements: peripherally inserted catheters versus centrally inserted catheters, Crit Care Med, 28(12)

Alansari, M. & Hijazi, M. (2004).  CVP from peripherally inserted central catheters correlates well with that of centrally inserted central catheters.  CHEST.

Subject: CVP Monitoring with PICCs

Hello.....

I just got a call from our ICU asking for references on using the BARD PICCs for CVP monitoring.  They are now labeled for that use, and our ICU staff needs references.

Can somebody point me to some?

Thanks!
