The facilities get no reimbursement for a Medicare or Medicaid PICC line insertion with ultrasound even if an MD places the line. It should however be billed as other payers might have a carve out fee for the ultrasound unit kathy

I am ignorant when it comes to reimbursement issues. I realize that the nurses putting in the PICCs/MLs in LTC don't always have ultrasounds, but for those who do and can produce hard copy images of the vessel being cannulated, can the facilities bill insurance companies and medicare? I was thinking about this issue last night and thought the same thing you did, Leigh Ann. The political route may be necessary. I've always wanted to bring a cause before congress : ) Monica Sorg, RN CRNI Infusion Nurse Specialist University of Louisville Hospital Louisville, KY ----------------------------------------------------- Confidentiality Disclaimer This message, including any attachments, is confidential, intended only for the named recipient(s) and may contain information that is privileged or exempt from disclosure under applicable law, including PHI (Protected Health Information) covered under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996.
