Maximum infusion rate depends on the patient tolerance and the device used for infusion, as well as your institution's policies. In LTC, we not only use sq infusions for MS and pain management but also for hydration, called hypodermoclysis.  The device I have used is the Aqua-C by Norfolk Medical, stays in up to 72 hrs, and can handle 1.5L/24hrs when covered with a sterile TSM, and prepped prior to access like an IV site.
