Yes, 1970. Diploma program. Our ADN program also teaches it currently with four 3 hour theory classes and an 8 hour lab using the rubber arm. When they do their clinicals here in the hospital they then are allowed monitored starts. A percentage of them also follow our stat nurses (RNs who do piccs, IV starts Code and RAT calls) for 8 hours and do IV starts then.

BUT, when I was head of the IV team from 1989-1995, we had University nursing students spend a day with us. At that time, they were allowed to stick, but not long after they changed to where they could just observe. But they were still getting "some" exposure.
