Margaret,
Thank you for this encouraging information. How frequent do you flush the lumens when they are not being used? Artie Hansford

We use the CLC2000 on all of our triple lumen CVC's, Hohn Catheters, Hickman Catheters and do not use heparing. No clotting off either. Would recommend trying it on the Power PICC. One thing I always stress is vigorous flushing with the push stop method. Routinely use 10 ml of NSS flush.

Subject: Flush Protocols for OPEN ENDED PICCS
Greetings!
We are a looking at using Power PICCs and Triple Lumen Catheters at our institution. Traditionally, we have used Groshong and have not had the need for the use of heparin. The MD's generally do not like to use heparin and we need to come up with a successful plan for using saline flushes with these lines.
If you have experience with saline only flushes of open ended PICCs please let us know the amount of saline that is used, how often, what injection cap is used and which catheters.
Also, if anyone has experience using less heparin than the traditional 300 unit as a final flush, please let us know what your experience is.
Does anyone know of any literature discussing 10u heparin flush vs. 100u heparin flush...or saline flush vs. heparin with open ended catheters? Thank you!!!
