Bob,

Could you share your policy regarding nurses interpreting PICC placement
and your competency test with me?

Thanks,

Lynn's example is what we do here in Utah. Our hospital is the
governing body who has approved the team to eval CXR's. We have a
written as well as a CXR test to determine competency.

Before looking for procedure-specific statements
from any board of nursing, you must know the
process used by that board. Many state boards are
now using the scope of practice decision tree,
which puts this decision into the hands of the
professional and their employer. We have been
using this model in GA for many years. So if
anyone contact the GA board to ask if nurses can
or can not assess chest xrays, or do any other
specific procedure, they are referred to this
decision tree. The board is not empowered by the
state nurse practice act to make these decisions.
So you must know what is happening in your state.
