Subject: heparin flush
I've had some questions recently about heparin flushes. Our current order set (which I 'inherited) specifies 3 cc of 100 unit/cc heparin flush for open-ended picc lines, yet for subclavian central lines we use 10 unit/cc heparin. Can anyone tell me specific guidelines for volumes and concentrations when it comes to heparin flushes for either type of central line?
Sincerely,
Lucy Jones, RN CNRN
